Angry people set three vehicles on fire inside the garage of a residence in the capital’s Banasree following the death of a housemaid.
The incident took place at House No 32, Banasree D Block, on Sunday (December 31) morning.
Being informed, two fire-fighting units went to the spot and brought the fire under control.
Rampura Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge OC Moshiur Rahman told risingbd this noon that a housemaid died at House No 32, Banasree D Block. Being informed, a police team went to the house. But before police, locals gathered in front of the house hearing the news. When police were trying to recover the body, local people barred them. Then, additional police were deployed to control the situation under control.
At one stage, the angry crowds torched three cars inside the garage of the house and threw brickbats to police.
Three police members, including OC Moshiur Rahman, were injured in this connection.
The house is owned by former tax commissioner Delwar Hossain. The housemaid worked at Delwar’s daughter Kaniz Fatema’s Mirpur house. Kaniz Fatema came to his father’s Banasree residence three days ago with her maid. The housemaid died falling from the building this morning, they claimed.
Rejecting their claim, locals alleged that the housemaid was killed by throwing her from the building’s roof.
