Adam Tamizi lands in jail

A Dhaka court has sent Adam Tamizi Haque, managing director of Haque Group of Industries, to jail in a defamation case filed against him under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque passed the order after the hearing in the case on Thursday (January 4).
At the same time, the court fixed January 10 as the date for bail hearing.
Earlier in the day, the investigation officer of the case, Social Media Crime Investigation Team, DB Police Inspector Md Rezaul Karim produced Tamizi as per the order of the court.
Tamizi was brought to the court from the rehab centre around 3:20pm on the day. After that, he was kept in the CMM court’s jail in Dhaka. He was produced in the court around 3:30pm.
Earlier, Adam Tamizi Haque was sent to a rehabilitation centre for a mental health test.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) chief Md Harun-Or-Rashid had said that a case was filed with Dakshinkhan police station against Adam Tamizi for writing various debated talks on social media. Following the case, he was arrested from his Gulshan residence on December 10 last year. After his arrest, abnormality was found in his behaviour and speech.
During the court proceedings, it was informed that DB believed he needed treatment due to his illogical speech.
Subsequently, he was sent to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Hospital for treatment on the court’s orders.
A board of nine expert doctors at the mental hospital examined him, and after the examination, the board members opined that he was still not mentally healthy and needed further treatment.
