Election environment is peaceful: Army chief

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has said that the election is going on peacefully.

The army chief said this while addressing newsmen after casting his vote at Cantonment Public School and College centre in the capital on Sunday (January 7).

He said that Bangladesh Army will perform its duties professionally and impartially as per the election commission's requirement if there is an atmosphere of violence founds after the elections.

Earlier, the balloting began at 8am and will continue until 4pm without any break.

According to EC, 11,96,89,289 voters, including 6,76,09,741 male, 5,89,18,699 female and 849 transgender, will vote to elect 299 members of parliament out of 300.
