Bangladesh sets example of holding free, fair polls: Sheikh Hasina

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the landslide victory in the 12th election is not victory only for me, it is the victory of the country’s people.

The Prime Minister said this while exchanging greetings with local and foreign journalists on Monday on the occasion of the 12th National Election.

The program was held at Prime Minister’s official residence Ganabhaban at 3:30 pm.

In responding to a question, Sheikh Hasina said, BNP did not participate in the election as they were afraid of contesting the direct election.

“The parties that were born in the hands of military dictators cannot move on their own. They do not have public support. So, they fear the direct election,” she said.

Bangladesh has successfully set an example of holding free, fair, and impartial polls through Sunday's general election, she said.
