Foreign observers did not see any intimidation or threats to the voters by the candidates or parties to cast their votes in the 12th national election. They commented that it is a good sign for democracy and voting rights.
Observers from seven countries shared their experience at a press conference held the National Press Club on Monday (January 8).
A delegation of high-level political analysts, former congressmen and journalists from seven countries, including the United States, observed the 12th national election.
At the press conference, former Deputy Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff of the White House National Security Council, and CEO of American Global Strategies, Alexander Burton Gray said, on January 7, we divided into three groups and observed a total of 20 polling stations in Dhaka and surrounding areas. We came to Bangladesh on 5th January and till yesterday we saw that the people of Bangladesh are very serious about their voting right, which is very rare in other countries of the world. There are many countries around the world that impose penalties for not casting vote, and many countries offer additional citizenship benefits to encourage voters. But, the common people of Bangladesh have interest and enthusiasm to cast votes, which we find very encouraging.
