BNP leader Nabi lands in jail

A Dhaka Court sent BNP Dhaka South unit Joint Convener Mohammad Nabiullah Nabi to jail following a three-day remand in a case filed under the Explosives and Special Powers Act at Jatrabari police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury issued the order on Tuesday (January 9).
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Ashraful Alam, also the investigating officer of the case, produced Nabi before the court and asked it to keep him in jail until the investigation is completed.
On January 6, the court granted three-day remand for Nabi.
According to the allegations in the case, on November 5, 2023, Nabi along with other leaders and activists reportedly chanted various anti-government slogans while armed with local weapons and cocktails, and created obstacles on the road, disrupting traffic.
Nabi and other accused allegedly hurled bricks and stones at the police. They are also accused of setting fire to two buses of the Turag Transport Company parked by the roadside and detonated cocktails, leading to chaos and disturbances on the road.
