Fakhrul’s bail hearing in 9 cases today

Further bail hearing of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in nine cases filed against him with Paltan and Ramna model police stations over political violence in Dhaka during a BNP rally on October 28 is set to be held today.

The bail hearing will be held in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Dhaka on Wednesday (January 10).

Earlier on Tuesday, BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was shown arrested in the nine cases.

At the same time, the court fixed today, Wednesday for hearing on the bail petitions submitted by Fakhrul’s lawyer in the cases – six filed with Paltan and three with Ramna model police stations.

The High Court on December 18 ordered the chief metropolitan magistrate of Dhaka to accept and dispose of the bail petitions of Mirza Fakhrul after hearing in the nine cases.

The cases were filed on charges of killing a police constable, illegal gathering on the street, vandalising vehicles, rioting, snatching a police weapon, damaging properties, assaulting policemen and preventing them from discharging their duties.

On October 29, Fakhrul was arrested from his Gulshan residence in a case filed with Ramna Police Station over the attack on the residence of the chief justice during a BNP rally on October 28.
