Charge hearing against Samrat in graft case deferred

A Dhaka court has deferred the date for charge hearing against Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, the expelled Juba League leader and the alleged casino kingpin, in a corruption case to March 5.
The case was set to be heard in the court of Judge (in charge) Monjurul Imam of the Special Judge’s Court-6 today, Monday (January 15). But Samrat’s lawyer sought time and therefore, the court set new date for charge hearing.
ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam, also investigating officer of the case, filed a corruption case on the allegation of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 2,94,80,087 on November 12, 2019.
After investigating the case, the ACC deputy director submitted charge sheet to the court against Samrat on November 26, 2020.
