State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the reasons behind the ferry accident on the Paturia-Daulatdia river route at Padma in Manikganj cannot be said without investigation report.
The minister said this while addressing reporters at the secretariat office on Wednesday (January 17).
He said initially, I was informed that there was a ferry anchored there and a bulkhead pushed it. I can't tell right now which is true.
I can’t make any comment without an investigation report, he added.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the incident of ferry capsize on Paturia-Daulatdia route. The probe committee was asked to submit its report within next five working days.
Earlier, a ferry named Rajanigandha which was stranded in the Padma river due to dense fog, capsized after being hit by a bulkhead near No 5 ghat in Manikganj Paturia around 8:30am.
