Peter Haas told this after a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (January 17).
He said, "I look forward in the coming months to working closely (with Bangladesh) to advance our mutual interest."
The envoy said he had the introductory meeting with the new minister on how the US and Bangladesh will work together in future.
"We talked about the future of Bangladesh-US relationship and how we will work together on issues of mutual important areas such as expanding business opportunities and Rohingyas" he said.
It was the first meeting between the US Ambassador Peter Haas and Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud after the 12th national election. On January 7, the Awami League won the 12th National Parliament election. Later, the AL joint general secretary Hasan Mahmud took oath as foreign minister on January 11.
