Bring down rice prices within 4 days

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has given an ultimatum to bring down rice prices within four days. Otherwise stern actions will be taken.

The minister gave the ultimatum at a meeting with rice mill owners and representatives of retail and wholesale sellers at the Directorate General of Food on Wednesday (January 17).

“You have increased price by Tk 6 in four days, so you have to reduce price within four days”, the minister warned.

There is no reason for price increases during the peak season, and instructed that mills must possess a food-grade licence from the following day.

He also announced that no exemption would be granted to those stockpiling paddy and rice without the necessary licence.
