LNG supply disruption may cause power crisis

Gas supply to the national grid is being disrupted due to a technical fault at the Maheshkhali LNG terminal. It may hit power generation in the country, causing severe loadshedding.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said power generation may be disrupted.
The technical fault at the Maheshkhali LNG terminal was noticed on Thursday night.
The ministry issued a press notification in this regard on Saturday (January 20), expressing regret for the temporary inconvenience to customers.
It said that work is underway for speedy repairs. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Petrobangla, and related companies are conducting round-the-clock supervision.
Different parts of the country, including dwellers of Chattogram city, started experiencing no gas supply.
Dwellers of Chattogram city passed Friday with extreme sufferings. No food was cooked at ovens. No gas-run vehicle was seen on the roads. Many people did not get food at hotels and restaurants.
