SC upholds HC order to demolish Gulshan Shopping Centre

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the High Court order to demolish Gulshan Shopping Centre, located in capital's Gulshan-1.

The Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Monday (January 22).

Earlier on December 13, a bench of High Court ordered to demolish the shopping mall within 30 days. Later, shop owners association of that complex filed a petition challenging the HC order.

On May 28, Fire Service and Civil Defence officials visited the shopping centre and found 10 fire hazards in the building. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) sealed the risky shopping center on July 23.
