Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen said, “We are waiting for the verdict of the High Court (HC) to take action over the death of child Ayaan Ahmed. Investigation report has been received. The investigation report has been submitted to the High Court.”
The minister made the remark while addressing a press briefing at the conference room of the health ministry on Sunday (January 28).
In reply to a question, he said, “Investigation report has been received. The investigation report has been submitted to the High Court. Hearing will be held today. It should not be right to leave any comment on the issue as the court is dealing with the matter. We will take action after getting HC verdict.”
Ayaan was taken to United Medical College Hospital on Badda Madani Avenue by his father, Shamim Ahmed, for circumcision on a Tk10,000 package on December 31.
Ayaan was given full anaesthesia there, reportedly without parental consent.
When, several hours after the operation, he still was not conscious, the hospital moved him to its Gulshan branch.
Following seven days of keeping Ayaan on life support, medical professionals in the paediatric intensive care unit declared him dead late on Sunday (January 7).
The child’s father Md Shamim Ahmed on January 9, filed a case against United Hospital and United Medical College Hospital, two of its doctors, unnamed directors, employees and staff over the death of his child.
DGHS also closed the United Medical College Hospital as it has no registration paper.
