Obituary motion adopted in JS

The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound shock at the demise of a former minister, a state minister and a member of parliament including Kuwait’s leader Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday (January 30) moved the obituary motion separately at the beginning of the session with brief resumes of those who died after prorogation of 24th session of the outgoing 11th Jatiya Sangsad.

The Speaker said the House expressed deep shock at the death of former communication minister Syed Abul Hossain of Madaripur-3, former State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Zinatun Nesa Talukdar and a former parliament member of Naogaon-3 Dr M Akram Hossain Chowdhury.

The Speaker has also expressed shock at the death of Emir of oil-rich Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who died on December 16, 2023 after three years in power.

The parliament conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.

The lawmakers also observed a one-minute silence as a mark of profound respect to the departed souls.
