The Hight Court issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why they should not be directed to remove the metal cages from the courtrooms and to reestablish wooden docks in courtrooms throughout the country.
The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah passed the order on Sunday (February 4).
The High Court today sought a list of courtrooms across the country where there are iron cages to keep the accused during case proceedings.
Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir, moved for the petitioner.
Earlier, 10 lawyers submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC. They are – GM Mujahidur Rahman, Muhammad Misbah Uddin, Md Jobayedur Rahman, Mohammad Noab Ali, Azimuddin Patwary, Mohammad Sajjad Sarwar, Md Mujahidul Islam, Mohammad Saddam Hossain, Mohammad Mizanul Haque and Abdullah Sadik.
