The police have arrested four, including Jahangirnagar University (JU) Chhatra League Leader Mostafizur Rahman, for allegedly raping a woman at a jungle adjacent to the campus after confining her husband at a university hall.
Abdullah Hil Kafi, Dhaka district’s additional police super (Crime and Ops and Traffic North division), confirmed the development at a press conference held at around 12pm on Sunday (February 4).
The arrestees are BCL leader Mostafizur Rahman, student of the 45th batch of the International Relations Department; Sagar Siddiqui of the 46th batch; Sabbir Hasan of the 47th batch of the Botany Department and Hasanuzzaman of the 45th batch.
The victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for health check-up. At the same time, the accused were sent to the court with seven-day remand prayer.
Abdullah Hil Kafi said the victim’s husband filed a case against six people with Ashulia police station.
Two people, including a Chhatra League leader, allegedly raped a woman at a jungle adjacent to Jahangirnagar University (JU) after confining her husband at a university hall. The incident took place in the jungle near Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall around 9:30 pm on Saturday (February 3).
Some other students of the university were involved in the incident, according to a CCTV footage.
Mostafizur was detained from Savar Bus Stand area at 7am on Sunday. Other three were detained around 2:30am as they helped the accused to flee.
Meanwhile, Mostafizur was expelled from the party for breaking the party discipline.
Mostafizur and Mamun, 45, an outsider, raped the woman. But Mamun is still absconding.
Murad, a student of 46th batch of International Relations Department, beat up the victim's husband Rabin tying him up at room no 317, Block A of the Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall.
Victim woman, a resident of Ashulia, said that Mamun is their tenant. Mamun and her husband went to Jahangirnagar on Saturday evening for a visit. Later, Mamun called her through her husband’s mobile phone and said to go to the university with some of his (Mamun) clothes and valuables which he left at his room. Mamun said he would not stay in their house.
“When I went there with the clothes, Mamun took me to a nearby forest saying me that my husband was there. Mostafizur was with him (Mamun). Then the duo raped me,” the victim said.
“They kept my husband confined at Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall,” she said.
