4 drug traders get life term

A Dhaka court has sentenced four drug traders to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over seizure of 900 bottles phensedyl from the capital’s Ramna area.

The four convicts are Wahiduzzaman Mehedi, Rafikul Islam, Jahangir Alam and Ashrafuzzaman Sagar.

Dhaka Special Sessions Judge Md Iqbal Hossain delivered the verdict on Sunday (February 11).

The court also fined them Tk 20,000, in default of which, they will have to suffer one year more in jail, in the case.

According to the case documents, detective branch (DB) of police on August 25, 2017, stopped a private car and a covered van in the capital’s Moghbazar intersection and seized the phensedyl from the vehicles.

The DB filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station and on October 17, 2017, filed charge-sheet.

The court today came up with the verdict after examining eight out of the total 12 witnesses.
