Cases against 77 BNP men: Verdict to be made today

A Dhaka court is set to announce the verdict in a case filed against 77 BNP leaders and activists on Tuesday (February 13).

Earlier on January 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin fixed the date.

The accused in the case - Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, joint secretary general Habib-un-nabi Khan Sohel, former Juba Dal president Saiful Alam Nirab, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Sheikh Rabiul Alam Robi, Nabi Ullah Nabi and others.

According to the case statement, BNP Chairperson Khaleda appeared before the court at Aliya Madrasa ground in Bakshibazar of Old Dhaka on December 5, 2017, in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust case. However, the accused blocked Abdul Gani Road from all around the area and stopped the traffic on that day. Meanwhile, police requested them to withdraw the blockade. At one stage, they vandalized police microbus.

Following the matter, Sub-Inspector Mofakkharul Islam filed the case with Shahbagh police station.
