Popi gets back to normal life after getting kidney of death man

Tahmina Yasmin Popi has got back to normal life after getting a kidney from a brain-dead man. The transplant was performed at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSSMU).
BSSMU Vice Chancellor and National Cadaveric Kidney Transplant Cell Chairman Professor Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed discharged the 49-year old woman on Tuesday (February 13).
In his speech, the BSSMU vice chancellor thanked brain-dead Md Masum Alam, a resident at Kamrangirchar.
He also thanked his wife Tania Akhtar and their family for their generosity to donate both the kidneys of their brain-dead member, Masum Alam.
With this one, two kidney transplants were performed at the hospital. The donor Masum was declared clinically dead at BSMMU.
Masum’s wife and brother gave consent to donate his kidneys after his death, said Dr Md Habibur Rahman Dulal, the lead surgeon of the surgery at BSMMU.
Professor Md Sharfuddin Ahmed said that Masum had been receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit due to neurological disorder and was declared brain dead.
He said that one of Masum’s kidneys was transplanted into Tahmina Yasmin at BSMMU.
