BNP leader Hafiz gets bail, no bar to release

A court in Dhaka granted bail to BNP vice-chairman Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, who was jailed for 21-months in a sabotage case filed with Gulshan police station.

As a result, there is no legal bar for him to walk out of the jail, said Hafiz’s lawyers.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the bail order after hearing in the case on Sunday (March 10).

Earlier, Maj Hafiz Uddin’s lawyer Aminul Islam submitted a bail petition before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge As-Sams Jaglul Hossain with a condition to file an appeal. After, holding hearing, the court accepted the appeal and granted his bail.

On March 5, Maj Hafiz surrendered before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury with an appeal. But the court sent him jail rejecting the bail after hearing.

On December 28, 2023, the same court jailed him for 21 months in the case.
