Journo Avishruti’s body handed over

The body of journalist Avishruti Shastri alias Brishti Khatun, has been handed over to her family after 11 days since the fire incident on Bailey Road in the capital on Monday (March 11) afternoon.

Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Jahangir Hossain Matubbar handed over the body to her father Shablul Alam Sabuj Sheikh around 2:55 pm.

He said that identity was confirmed through DNA profiling on Sunday following the court’s order.

The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test was conducted at the forensic lad of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.

Through the DNP profiling, it has been confirmed that her father is Shablul Alam Sabuj Sheikh and mother is Beauty Khatun, according to CID forensic department.

DNA samples were collected from Sabuj Sheikh and Beauty Khatun who claimed to her parents. At the same time, DNA samples were also collected from the body of the deceased. It has been confirmed in the lab that Brishti’s father is Sabuj Sheikh and mother is Beauty Khatun.

Brishti Khatun was one of the 46 people died in the terrible Bailey Road fire on February 29.
