Tanvir, Jasmin get life term imprisonment

A Dhaka court has sentenced Hallmark Chairman Jasmine Islam and Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud to life-term imprisonment in a case filed for swindling around Tk 4,000 crore.

Judge Md Abul Kashem of the Special Judge Court-1 of Dhaka passed the verdict on Tuesday (March 19).

Earlier, on January 28, after hearing the arguments of the case, the court fixed February 28 for announcing the judgment. However, on that day, when the ACC applied to withdraw the case from the judgment and receive the testimony of two more witnesses, the court granted it. Then the court accepted the testimony of two magistrates.

Later, on March, the court fixed March 19 to announce the verdict after ending argument of both ACC and accused.
