Schedule for 1st phase upazila polls to be announced today

The schedule for the first phase of the upazila parishad election would be announced today (March 21).

The election commission is scheduled to arrange a meeting led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal at capital’s Agargaon around 11:00am.

On the other hand, the revised Upazila Parishad Election Rules-2013 and Upazila Parishad (Election Conduct) Rules-2016 have been announced after vetting by the Law Ministry. It was published on the BG Press website last Tuesday night.

EC's additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath yesterday (March 20), said a meeting of Election Commission will be held on Thursday.

He also said that gazette on Upazila Parishad (The Conduct of Election Rules) and Upazila Parishad Election Rules have been announced. The issue of signatures of 250 voters, has been removed from the rules. It will make easier for the candidates to join the upazila election.

The issue of by-election in Jhenaidah-1 would be discussed in today’s meeting.
