Genocide Day today

Today (March 25) is the worst black day in world history. On this day in 1971, a terrible night came at the end of the day in the life of the Bengali nation.

On the black night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani military junta carried out mass killing in Dhaka as part of their blueprint to shut the voice of Bengali nation forever under infamous ‘Operation Searchlight’.

Several programs have been chalked out to observe the day with due respect. A one-minute symbolic 'blackout' will be observed on March 25 throughout the country marking the Genocide Day.

The "blackout" programme will be observed for one minute from 11:00 pm to 11:01pm on the night of March 25 across the country. However, establishments of emergency services will remain out of the purview of the programme.

On the occasion of Genocide Day, the President and Prime Minister will issue special messages. A discussion meeting will be held on March 25 at 10:30 am at the Liberation War Museum.

Genocide and liberation war related ballads and cultural programs will be organized across the country. Rare photographs and documentaries on the genocide will be disseminated in all city corporations, including Dhaka.
