Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has warned that actions will be taken if bus, train, and launch operators charge excess fare from Eid holidaymakers.
The IGP came up with the warning after distributing prizes among the winners of the police’s annual Azan, Kerat and essay competition held at Rajarbagh central mosque in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
The IGP also urged passengers to seek help by calling the National Emergency Service-999 or the nearest police station if anyone tries to charge extra fare.
He also urged people to dial 999 for assistance in case of extortion on the road during their journey.
About the black-marketing of train tickets, he said all law enforcement agencies are working collectively to prevent the evil efforts of a dishonest quarter during the Eid home rush.
