Around 15 million individuals will leave the greater Dhaka area, including Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur and Narayanganj city corporation areas, for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
Of the holidaymakers, 60 per cent of them (around 90 lakh) will go by road and the remaining 40 per cent people will leave by water and railways.
The National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR) disclosed this at a press release on Monday.
NCPSRR general secretary Ashis Kumar Dey said that the report was compiled from a variety of sources, including research data, civic groups and transport sector organisations.
The release said that the government has already given necessary directives to the concerned authorities to smooth the Eid journey. Besides, the law enforcers including police and other concerned have taken necessary measures.
The leaders of the committee hoped that the sufferings of passengers during the Eid will be reduced due to the necessary steps of the concerned authorities.
The committee has voiced concerns over the possibility of increased public suffering and accidents on the roads, similar to previous years.
