Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the government is looking into the KNF’s rebel activities.
He made the remark while inaugurating one rail overpass along the Elenga-Hatikumrul-Rangpur highways in Tangail, seven overpasses, a bridge, and the Meghna Bridge Toll Plaza-2 on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Saturday (April 6) morning.
About the KNF’s rebel activities, Quader said, “Joint operations are underway in the hilly areas. The situation will come under control. Some sporadic incidents cannot make the entire hilly area unstable.”
Quader elaborated on the complexities near the Myanmar border, specifically mentioning the state of Chin, where the KNF allegedly has a base.
Addressing potential external support for disruptive groups, Quader remarked, “The situation differs if groups like UPDF and Santu Larma’s Jana Sanghati Samiti back them. Who will support these minor groups? The KNF might have committed such crime being angered.”
On April 2 night, armed criminals stormed Bandarban’s Ruma upazila parishad complex, disarmed security personnel and took their firearms, robbed the Sonali Bank branch and abducted the bank manager.
Later, the RAB rescued the abducted Sonali Bank Manager Nezam Uddin in Ruma town on April 4.
