Passengers used to get a concessional facility for travelling more than 100 kilometers. But Bangladesh Railway authorities are going to increase cost of travel on long route trains from May 4 with the abolition of the concessional facility.
Director General of Bangladesh Railway Sardar Shahadat Ali confirmed this on Monday (April 22).
The commercial section of the railway has fixed the fares. Besides, steps have been taken to boost the income of Bangladesh Railway by increasing the ticket prices, he said.
Bangladesh Railway was giving the distance and section-based rebate since 1992. The section-based rebate was cancelled in 2012.
Most recently, Bangladesh Railway has decided to cancel the distance-based rebate, and the decision will come into effect on May 4.
