There was a continuous heatwave in the country in last month, April. Mild and severe heat waves are still continuing in different parts of the country. This heat wave may continue for a long time even in this May. There may also be a cyclone.
On Thursday (May 2), the Meteorological Department of Bangladesh (BMD) predicted this in the long-term forecast.
Director of Meteorological Department Azizur Rahman said that overall there is a possibility of normal rainfall in the country. During the month of May, the country may experience three to five days of light monsoon storm with thunder and hail and two to three days of moderate/severe monsoon storm with thunder and hail.
Besides, one to three mild (36-38°C)/moderate (38-40°C) and one to two severe (42°C) heatwaves are likely to occur in some parts of the country. Day temperature may be higher than normal and night temperature may be normal in May.
Bay of Bengal is likely to experience one to two low pressures during the month of May, of which a low pressure/cyclone may form in the second half of the month.
Normal flow may prevail in major rivers of the country. However, in view of heavy rainfall upstream, rivers in the northern and northeastern parts of the country may rise particularly rapidly and may flow close to the coastal line at some places.
Meanwhile, the forecast for the next 24 hours from 9:00 am on Thursday (May 2) said that there may be temporary rain or thundershowers in some places of Chattrogram and Sylhet divisions and a couple of places in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Barisal divisions. Also there may be scattered hailstorm at some places. Apart from this, the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere in the country.
Meteorological Department stated, extremely intense heat wave is flowing over Jashore, Khulna, Chuadanga, Pabna and Rajshahi districts. Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj and rest of Khulna divisions are experiencing severe heatwave. Apart from this, mild to moderate heatwave is flowing in other parts of the country. This heatwave may subside in some parts of the eastern part of the country.
On this day, the day temperature may drop slightly in the western part of the country and the temperature may drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius in other parts of the country. However, the Meteorological Department also said that the night temperature may remain almost unchanged across the country.
A few places in Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary rain with gusty winds or thundershowers on Friday. The Meteorological Department has predicted that there may be scattered hailstorms at some places. Apart from this, the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere in the country.
Apart from this, on Saturday, there may be temporary rain with gusty winds or rain with thunder in a couple of places of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Scattered hail may occur on that day. Apart from this, the weather will remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country. Day and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country.
Regarding the extended 5-day weather forecast, the Meteorological Department has said that rain or thundershowers are likely to prevail over the country and temperatures may drop further.
