Sundarbans fire under control: Environment ministry

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said the fire in Amarbunia camp of Chandpai range of the Sundarbans in Morrelganj upazila of Bagerhat is now under control.

The ministry issued a press notification in this regard on Sunday (May 5).

A three-member investigation committee has been formed by the forest department to investigate the specific cause of the fire.

According to the statement, the ministry said the fire did not spread to the top of the tree or branches, only spread sporadically above the ground.

Apart from the forest department, several units of fire service, navy, police, district administration, upazila administration, public representatives, Community Patrol Guards (CPG), volunteers and local people provided assistance in extinguishing the fire.
