US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Donald Lu said that his visit to Bangladesh was an effort to rebuild trust between people of two countries.
The US point person for South Asia said this while talking to reporters after his meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the latter’s office at 3:30pm on Wednesday (May 15).
Lu said, “Last year, we know there were a lot of tensions between the United States and Bangladesh. The US worked very hard to promote free, fair, and nonviolent elections here, and it caused some tensions. But, now we want to look forward not look back; we want to find ways to strengthen our relationship. We want to boost cooperation among ourselves.”
Issues like RAB sanction, labour reforms, human rights, and business climate reforms were also discussed in the meeting, he said.
