‘Artificial Intelligence is a big threat to civilization’

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak has said artificial intelligence (AI) will make life easier, but it will be a major threat to human civilization. 

The state minister said this at a program marking the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city on Friday.

The government is going to make a law to deal with the challenges of technology, especially the adverse effects of AI. New broadband policies will be formulated by 2024 to make internet accessible, he said.

Highlighting the significance of the day, the state minister said Bangabandhu obtained the membership of ITU in 1973 and included Bangladesh in the world of information and communication technology by establishing a geosatellite center in Betbunia. 

“We reached the present stage due to adventurous and visionary programs like Digital Bangladesh program in 2008 taken under the plan of Sajib Wazed”, he mentioned.
