Tanvir gives confessional statement

Tanvir Bhuiyan, one of the suspects in a case filed over the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar, gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Tuesday (June 4).

He willingly agreed to give the confessional statement during remand today.

Later, Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), also the investigation officer of the case, filed a plea with the court to record his confession.

Following the plea, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain recorded his statement.

Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Amanullah Sayeed, Tanvir Bhuiyan and Silisti Rahman were placed on five-day fresh remand after the conclusion of eight-day remand.

Among them, Silisti Rahman gave her confessional statement on Monday (June 3).

Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin, daughter of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Md Anwarul Azim, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station on May 22.

Meanwhile, DB on Monday submitted a petition to a Dhaka court to search the bank account information of 10 accused in the case.

Anwarul Azim Anar, a lawmaker from the ruling Awami League, crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

The following day, he left to see a doctor at around noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas said that he had gone to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.

Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
