CPD terms budget as too ambitious, unrealistic

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), claimed that the target set by the government for reducing inflation to 6.75 percent in the fiscal year 2024-25, from the existing 9 percent, is unrealistic. Over all, the proposed budget is very ambitious.

CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun said this in a post-budget briefing at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on Friday morning (June 7).

She said that many targets of economic indicators will not be met in the budget. Also, the steps that need to be taken to deal with the ongoing economic concerns have not been considered in the budget for the financial year 2024-25.

The strategies for curbing inflation and providing relief to the poor and those on fixed incomes are insufficient, Fahmida Khatun opined.
