Bangladesh has marked tremendous economic growth surpassing neighboring countries in different social indexes in the last 15 years.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md. Ruhul Alam Siddique expressed this view while paying rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Bangladesh high commission in Islamabad held a memorial meeting marking the historic Six-Point Day on Thursday (June 7).
The world economy in recent times has passed a challenging time amid the break-out of the corona pandemic and is still going through a rough period with the Russia-Ukraine war and a middle-east crisis over the killing of thousands of innocent Palestinian citizens by Israeli soldiers, he said.
With the current GDP size of 450 billion US dollars in 2024, the high commissioner said that Bangladesh is expected to become the 24th largest economy in the world by 2030.
He said under the bold leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has become an economic giant in the region and set to become a developed country by 2041.
The high commissioner in his speech said “On June 7 in 1966, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman launched a massive movement against the misrule of the Pakistanis on the basis of the 6-point demand”.
Eleven people, including Manu Mian, Shafique and Shamsul Haque, were gunned down by the police and paramilitary EPR on June 7, 1966 in Dhaka and Narayanganj during a hartal called for the release of Bangabandhu and other leaders detained for launching the Six-Point Movement against the then barbaric ruling clique.
