Waker-Uz-Zaman named new army chief

Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman has been appointed as the new army chief of Bangladesh.
His appointment will be effective from 23 June afternoon.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday (June 23).
According to the notification, he has been appointed for three years. He will replace General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman assumed the duties of chief of general staff of the Bangladesh Army on January 1. An alumnus of the Bangladesh Military Academy, he was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on December 20, 1985.
Lieutenant General Waker is an alumnus of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, and Joint Services Command and Staff College, UK.
He holds a Master's degree in Defence Studies from the National University of Bangladesh and a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from King's College, University of London.
