Police knew of Kawsar’s mental illness: IGP

Inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said that Constable Kawsar Ali, who shot a co-worker dead while on duty in the capital’s Baridhara, had a mental illness.
The IGP said this while replying reporters at an event at the Police Auditorium in Dhaka’s Rajarbagh on Tuesday (June 11).
Although, the department knew regarding his mental illness but he was reinstated to his duties after a doctor provided him with a discharge certificate.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal attended the program as a chief guest.
However, earlier the DMP additional commissioner Khandar Mahid Uddin told reporters that DMP didn’t know about the mental illness of Kawsar.
