State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibbur Rahman has feared that an 8 magnitude earthquake may hit the capital Dhaka.
The state minister said this at a dialogue organized by Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) on Wednesday (June 12).
“There is no reason to fear earthquakes, because such situations occur in many countries like Turkey. But they have built disaster-resilient infrastructure and social systems. Because of this, they have developed the ability to resolve problems”, he said.
The state minister said, “We are working to create volunteers in the urban areas on a large scale. If the buildings collapse, we have made extensive plans to clear them and rescue people”.
