Former VAT commissioner Waheeda barred to leave country

A Dhaka court has barred has barred former VAT commissioner of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Waheeda Rahman Choudhury from traveling abroad in a corruption case.

Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court gave the order on Thursday in a case filed for embezzling money by causing losses amounting to Tk152 crore to the state through misuse of power.

 ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir participated in the hearing.

ACC’s Assistant Director Md Shah Alam Sheikh filed the case on Tuesday. 

Customs commissioner Waheeda Rahman Choudhury has gone on retirement as the LTU Commissioner. 

The case statement says that accused Waheeda Rahman Choudhury waived four mobile phone operators' unpaid interest of Tk152 crore.
