23.5 lakh animals unsold, big farmers in heavy loss

A total of one crore 29 lakh 80 thousand 367 sacrificial animals were ready in the whole country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Of which, a total of one crore 6 lakh 21 thousand 228 animals were sold across the country. 23 lakh 59 thousand and 139 remain unsold.
Department of Livestock Services said this at a press release on Monday (June 17).
Many large-sized sacrificial animals remained unsold due to low demand in the market this year, frustrating cattle farmers across the country.
Several affected farmers said they faced huge losses as they could not sell their sacrificial animals due to low demand in the cattle market.
