20 rivers to be dredged to prevent floods: Zaheed Farooque

State Minister for Water Resources Ministry Zaheed Farooque has said the government will take steps to dredge 20 rivers in Sunamganj in order to floods.

The state minister said this while talking to journalists after visiting the flood-hit areas of Sunamganj sadar upazila on Thursday (June 20).

Water coming from upstream brings silt, which obstructs the normal flow of the rivers, said the minister, adding, “We have talked to the engineers to start dredging in the rivers soon.”
 
All necessary steps will be taken to deal with the flood situation, he said.
