Matiur Rahman, president of the National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal, has been transferred to the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Ministry of Finance following goat scandal.
The ministry issued a notification in this regard on Sunday (June 23).
The order issued in public interest will come into effect immediately, the notification said.
Matiur Rahman’s name came into limelight this Eid-ul-Azha after rumors surfaced that his son had bought a goat for Tk15 lakh.
The excessive price of the goat sparked widespread controversy.
However, denying these claims, Matiur Rahman said: “Iffat is neither my son nor even a relative or acquaintance. My only son’s name is Toufiqur Rahman. I will take legal steps against these rumours.”
