Matiur, wife, son barred from leaving country

A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman, who came into limelight over goat scandal, his wife Laila Kaniz Lucky and son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnob.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (June 24).

Investigation Officer Anwar Hossain filed the petition on behalf of the ACC.

Allegations of amassing illegal wealth surfaced after a video went viral showing Matiur’s son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat buying a goat for Tk 15 lakh during Eid-ul-Azha.

A three-member committee has already been formed to probe the allegations against Matiur with a deputy director as the head to investigate the allegation.
