12 deals, MoUs likely to be signed during PM`s China visit

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit China from July 8-11. A total of 12 deals and Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) are likely to be signed during the tour.

Trade, investment, medium and long-term loans, Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects, Chinese investment, resolving the Rohingya crisis and Myanmar's civil war will get priority during the visit. There will also be discussions on strengthening multilateral relations between the two countries.

Diplomatic sources said that the visit is considered an important one following the ongoing turmoil and geopolitical situation in the Middle East due to the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israeli attack on Gaza.

On the second day of the four-day visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang will hold an official meeting on July 9. Sheikh Hasina will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on July 10 the next day. On the same day, the premier will also meet the President of the National People's Congress of China, Zhao Leji.

According to the sources, preparations have already been made for signing 12 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).

Bangladesh may ask for a special economic package from China to overcome the current macroeconomic pressure.
