Militancy not fully eradicated but under control

The 8th anniversary of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack, the deadliest night of terror in the country’s history that saw 22 people killed, is being observed today (July 1).

After that attack, the law enforcement agencies conducted several operations against the militants. Many terrorists including top militant leaders were killed in the drives, many were arrested also. Law enforcers said that the militants are still active. The militants have become weak due to continuous drives. Militancy is not fully eradicated but under control.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) counter-terrorism and transnational crime (CTTC) unit chief Md Asaduzzaman said that some are migrating due to militancy. We are regularly looking for the migrants. CTTC found at least two of them each month. Those who remain in the initial stages are handed over to their families. We do not disclose them for the safety of them and their families. However, we are taking legal action against those who go out of control.

The CTTC unit chief also said that along with RAB, police, and all intelligence agencies are trying to eliminate the militants. Many militants have escaped on bail. Every battalion of RAB is working to catch them.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that the militancy situation in the country is under control with the sincere efforts of all forces. There is no threat or fear of any major terrorist attack now. In the global terrorism index ranking, Bangladesh is now in a safer position than many developed countries.
