Metro rail fares won`t increase 

Metro rail fares will not increase as the National Board of Revenue (NBR) did not take any decision on imposing 15 percent VAT from July 1.

The deadline for the 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) exemption on Metrorail tickets expired on Sunday (June 30). So, the VAT was scheduled to impose on the sector from Monday (July 1). 

Metro rail authority said they did not receive a reply from NBR regarding their appeal seeking a review of the revenue authority's decision to impose 15 percent VAT from July 1.

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) said, “We wrote to the ministry for not imposing VAT on fares. The ministry referred it to NBR and now we are waiting for their [NBR] reply”.
