Charge hearing against Samrat in graft case on Sept 26

A Dhaka court has deferred the date for charge hearing against Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, the expelled Juba League leader and the alleged casino kingpin, in a corruption case to September 26.

The case was set to be heard in the court of Judge (in charge) Md Iqbal Hossain of the Special Judge’s Court-6 today, Tuesday (July 2). But Samrat’s lawyer sought time and therefore, the court set new date for charge hearing.

Jahidul Islam, bench assistant of the court concerned, confirmed the news.

Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md Jahangir Alam, also investigating officer of the case, filed a corruption case on the allegation of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 2,94,80,087 on November 12, 2019.

After investigating the case, the ACC deputy director submitted charge sheet to the court against Samrat on November 26, 2020.
