38 gold bars seized at Shahjalal Airport

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized 38 gold bars weighing 4.420 kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka early Wednesday.

CIID Circle Assistant Director Pradeep Kumar Sarker confirmed this in a press release issued on Wednesday (July 3).

The gold bars were seized from a flight of As Salam Airlines coming from Muscat in Oman around 5:30am, the release said.

However, no one was arrested in this connection.

Pradeep Kumar Sarker said during the raid, two heavy objects wrapped in black scotch tape were found abandoned in the luggage cabin above seats no. 2 (D-E-F). The two heavy objects were taken to the inventory of the two customs halls. Later, 38 gold bars were found after unwrapping the black scotch tape.

The seized gold bars were sent to the customs warehouse of Dhaka Customs House.

The estimated market value of the seized gold bars is Tk 4.5crore.
