Padma Bridge`s closing ceremony today

The long-awaited Padma Bridge project has already been completed. On this occasion, the closing ceremony will be held at the Mawa-end of the bridge on Friday (July 5).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the function as the chief guest.

Facing many challenges, a new chapter of road communication in Bangladesh, started on June 25, 2022 through the Padma Bridge. Later, the rail line was launched in 2023.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will deliver his speech at 4:20 pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will deliver the chief guest address at 4:30 pm.

The Awami League government finalized the Padma multi-purpose bridge project in January 2011 with the loan of four multinational organizations including the World Bank. But the organizations turned away from the project on false allegations of corruption. The matter is also proved in the international court that there was no corruption in this project. After that the World Bank showed interest in returning to financing, but Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina decided to build the Padma Bridge with own money.

According to the schedule of the closing ceremony, the guests will take their seats at the venue at 3 pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will arrive at the venue at 4 pm. Monjur Hossain, the Secretary of the Bridge Department will give a welcome speech at 4:01 pm. After that, a documentary will be shown at 4:05 pm.
